New Year: Almost Here!

Hope everyone had a great holiday! I know I did; aside from being sick (much worse than last week), I feasted on great food and enjoyed great company! I even came away with some pretty cool loot (DVD's - the best boyfriend in the world got me PUPPY BOWL!, some lovely organizing aid from my brother, cast iron skillets and all sorts of goodies from my boyfriend's family).

And I got some major fabric love in the mail! All my charm packs came in, as well as the eight I ordered after that (Giddy, Fresh Flowers, Dilly Dally, 12 Days of Christmas, Max & Whiskers, Bird Song, Lily and Will, and Breakfast at Tiffany's). I also picked up some Metro Cafe and a lovely word print with Fairy Tale theme - I plan on using that for the back of my Far Far Away quilt!!!

I now have over 600 new pieces for my hexie quilt! Of course, that's after I baste them .

Which might take forever ... or it might take an all day, all four movies Resident Evil Marathon. :)

it's only two sleeps away from Christmas

And I am, for the most part, done with it!

I think this is the only year of recent years I haven't been super stoked about Christmas. I was, of course, but now that I'm saddled with last-minute gift buying (and stress, and a ridiculous last-minute flu) I'm just about ready for it to be OVER.

But I did manage to accomplish some things at home with my ickyness. I finished my selvedge scarf - which is about 57", complete, by 7", and backed with a flannel pyjama pant from target! It's soft, not as drapable as a scarf usually is (but that's okay). I'm very excited to be able to use it (once it gets cold enough here, of course...)

I also broke down and ordered some more charm packs for my hexagon quilt. They were all on sale for $5.99 and $6.99, so how could I resist? Some of them were new - Hoopla, Central Park, Sunkissed, and Hideaway - and some of them were older: Half Moon (bought entirely for the "scissors" prints), Wee Woodland, and Freebird. There are a few others I intend to acquire, but for now, those are going to keep me plenty busy. I've got about 500 hexies pieced together - I'm going to make a piece that's approximately 22 rows and 22 columns, and have that be my "base". Then I'll just build around the sides of that until I'm done!

It's off to work now, and then I'm going to enjoy two holi-days of peace and family. Happy Holidays!!!

I love a productive Wednesday

Well, productive in some areas, not so productive in others...

For starters, I had to leave early because my older brother needed to go to the ER for an ear infection. Luckily, it was my half day, so it's not as bad as leaving for a whole day. In fact, I worked until nearly twelve before I had to go!

I started to on this little number- a gift for my best friend! The face is kind of wonky, but I'm going to work on it and fix it up a bit. The colors are a mixture of her favorites and his - he loves royal blue, and she loves emerald green...so there's definitely some of that thrown in!

I got started on my selvedge scarf! I'd said I'm about halfway through - I had some time yesterday to get to stitching. The only reason I stopped was because I ran out of thread on the bobbin and I HATE to rethread the bobbin and put it in there. It's my least favorite part.

Got some awesome fabric mail. Patty Young's FLORA AND FAUNA - I seriously love this line of fabric! She had me at the dandelions, and sealed the deal with moths.

I also decided what to do for my niece's Christmas present: one of futuregirl's Octopi stuffies and a boxful of stickers. Two of MY favorite things as a little girl, that's for sure :)

Oh, the weather outside is frightful

Well, not actually. It's actually sunny if not a bit cold for us "Galveston" folks. If you've ever been to the Houston/Gulf coast area, you would know how humid it is! Galveston is no exception (it definitely feels worse), but being a native islander (or a BOI, as people have taken to calling those born-on-island) I'm more used to this than cool winter weather.

Mind you, for us "cold" is about thirty degrees or so. And we don't get snow but maybe once every ten years? And that "snow" is usually slush.

Yesterday was quite nice! I stayed around and sewed my hexagons...

Sorted my scraps into light, cool, and warm colors...

ate a whole package of chocolate covered pretzels...

watched Harry Potter all day...

...and got to see the seventh movie with the boyfriend. :)

It was a good, good day! Now if I can just have those packages I ordered come in NAO I think everything will be okay!
